Wild Salmon

Website/URL: http://wildernesscommittee.org/what_we_do/preserving_the_pacific_coast/wild_salmon

Summary: Nets and open-net cage salmon farming are hurting the salmon. This is also causing over fishing of the salmon. Habitats are being destroyed and over 100 stocks of salmon and 700 are at risk in British Columbia. “The Wilderness Committee is making sure the protection of the wild salmon’s habitat and protecting wild salmon from the effects of salmon farming.” They are trying to stop the use of open net cage salmon farming. They address different issues such as parasitic sea lice and disease that kills juvenile wild salmon that migrate past farms on their way out to sea. In the article are also states.”The raw sewage, toxic chemicals, pesticides and drugs also emanate from salmon farms polluting marine life and also your dinner plate”. It’s better to stop these over fishing and toxic states to stop hurting the fish.
Opinion: In my opinion, people are doing too much over fishing, weather it’s by their own nets, rods, hook and salmon farms itself. People usually just think about themselves and not the animals or their habitats. They don’t realize it that if they don’t stop doing what their doing they won’t have any salmon left to catch which well cut down on jobs and leisure activites.

OIL AND WATER DOESN’T MIX.

Summary: In this article, they explain about how the parks are becoming more and more uncared for then they use to be. People are littering and doing things in these parks that should never be allowed. People are not looking after the park, because it should never be like this in the first place. If someone did drop something, why don’t someone else pick it up(things that are normal like a can) Because this is not a hospital or a road, people(the government) doesn’t give much care for it. A quote from the article would be,
“It is unusual for the council to criticize government, McCall said. "But every time they want to put more money into health and education, they cripple parks," he said.
Bob Gunn, chairman of the council and head of the fish, wildlife and recreation program at the B.C. Institute of Technology, said he is increasingly alarmed about the state of parks.
This year, after decades of taking students into Garibaldi Provincial Park, about 100 kilometers north of Vancouver, Gunn found garbage along the trails and signs people were defecating beside campsites, probably because all outhouses on one side of the campsite were locked, he said.”

Opinion:
This article is not something I would want to read in an every day paper or on the internet. Not only is it disturbing but it would make you question a number of things. Having all this trash around and human “doings”, he it hurting the fresh air and the homes of animals, Killing most I can imagine and hurting humans that use this park every day. People cannot bring their babies or kids there because not only is it affecting their health but the environment. Trash doesn’t not help the earth or the air. Having parks littered, people thinks its just the park when they don’t realize how bad the air quality well get and how the animals are being effected. If the park as water, the water supply is going to be down and dirty. People should really start to smarten up.

Manitoba's Provincial Parks

Website/URL: http://wildernesscommittee.org/what_we_do/defending_public_lands/manitobas_provincial_parks

Summary: This Park is such a pleasure to be in with lots to do and beautiful scenes. Even though this is such a wonderful place to be, the truth is that Manitoba’s parks are under a lot of barrage of threats.” Logging, staff cuts, lack of funding, weak laws, encroaching privatization and government indifference are putting the future of the province’s parks in jeopardy.” Lately, logging was allowed in certains parks of Manitoba’s cherished parks.” Few governments in the world clear-cut their parks and Manitoba stood out as one of the worst park-logging offenders”. Logging stopped after a period of time in all except one park, Duck Mountain.

Opinion: To me, there should be a limit about how much trees are being cut in parks in Canada and around the world. Government doesn’t really care about how much they are hurting everything else except themselves. They can be hurting the environment, tourism, popularity, the economy and the habitats of animals including animals it’s self.
